Review :: DR MEAKER ‘Shak Out’ ft Astroid Boys and Joe Peng

Do you get excited about music that grips you and won’t let go? Have I got a treat for you.

They come in the formation of Dr Meaker ft Astroid Boys and Joe Peng. Do you love old school, new school, grime, bass lines, mixes that spin faster than the records themselves? Yes of course you do. Then ‘Shak Out’ is one track that will change the course of your play list forever.

These guys are tipping the balance, falling into a whole new genre / zone, infecting your brain “With an intense beat”. Smashing the music scene, your headphones, tweeters, mids and subs. Finally you have an excuse to crank up your volume from 6 to 10.

The new collaborative double A-side ‘Shak Out’ / ‘No Money No Jobs’ is out January 28th on Sludge Records, as featured in the fantastic video below.

Providing the chorus for ‘Shak Out’ is Bristol legend Joe Peng, an MC who carved his name at the original Fantazia, Perception, Dreamscape and Universe raves. Peng has MCd for Jumping Jack Frost, Kenny Ken, Sy, Slipmatt, Carl Cox, and is now signed to Tricky’s new Island records offshoot Brown Punk.

Since I first heard Dr Meaker in 2012 I’m excited about what’s next. 2013 is going to be huge for these guys. Setting the standard and paving the way forward for pure adrenalin bass pumping music. After being at a Dr Meaker gig you will discover what a night out is really about.

These guys are what we can expect the music scene to sound like 2013.

Describing their sound as New Bristol Bass Music. Dr Meaker started their journey in 2004. The band soon built up a strong following, while their hyper-frenetic amen-and-dread-bass combo ‘Rubber Gloves’ gained the attention of Rob da Bank, who played the track on his BBC Radio 1 show.

Dr Meaker have released 5 singles since their album ‘Double Bass’ ‘The Fix’ ft. Pyrelli ‘Higher’ Ft. Redskin, ‘Music In The Night’ and ‘Fighter’. They’ve remixed a track for  William Orbit ’s ‘Optical Illusions’ album, Mr Fogg’s ‘Moving Parts’ and The King Blues single ‘Headbutt’.

Well ahead of release ‘Shak Out’ has received to date almost 400,000 YouTube views. Constant air play on BBC 1Xtra, 6 Music and BBC Radio 1 from Rob da Bank, Toddla T, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Jen & Ally for ‘BBC Introducing.
